Fosamax, Aredia & Zometa Side Effects

Fosamax has several potentially severe side effects, including the osteonecrosis of the jaw (ONJ), a destructive disorder in the mouth that causes painful gums, loosening of the teeth, and poor healing of the gums after surgery.  While ONJ is the most dangerous and can even lead to the removal of the jaw, people have been known to suffer other adverse effects of Fosamax.  Some of the more common Fosamax side effects include upset stomach, nausea, abdominal cramps, diarrhea, excessive flatulence, or severe constipation.  There are also reports of severe esophageal trauma and ulceration that can require extensive hospitalization to repair. Zometa side effects

Zometa is very similar to Aredia. In fact, they are both manufactured by the same company, Novartis International AG, and are designed to treat the same conditions, but Zometa is 100 times more powerful than Aredia. Like Aredia, Zometa is administered intravenously to people suffering from hypercalcaemia of malignancy (HCM), multiple myeloma, and some forms of cancer that have spread into the bone. Also like Aredia, Zometa side effects include flu-like symptoms, gastrointestinal distress, anemia, renal problems, constipation, and allergic reactions and hives. Some people also developed osteonecrosis of the jaw, a rare but devastating side effect that causes jaw, gum, and teeth pain and in some cases can necessitate jawbone removal.
